Salmon Hybloc™ DNA

Summary

Product: Salmon Hybloc™ DNA
Catalog #: SHB
Concentration: 1 mg/mL (A260)
Source: European Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) Livers
Storage: -20°C

Salmon Hybloc™ DNA is the repetitive sequence fraction of genomic DNA obtained from European Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) livers by extracting, shearing, denaturing, and reannealing DNA under conditions that enrich for repetitive sequences. Salmon Hybloc™ DNA may be effectively substituted for any other competitor DNA (e.g., Cot-1 DNA®, salmon sperm DNA, genomic DNA, etc.) to suppress cross-hybridization to salmon repetitive sequences for fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), Southern blots, array comparative genomic hybridization (array CGH), hybrid capture and any other protocol requiring competition to block repetitive DNA from binding to the target. Hybridization with Hybloc™ DNA shows a marked increase in signal intensity and a significant decrease in the amount of background noise associated with repetitive DNA.

Cot-1 DNA® is a registered trademark of Life Technologies Corporation

Salmon Hybloc™ DNAs are supplied in 500 µg quantities at 1 mg/mL in 10 mM Tris-HCl (pH 7.4), 1 mM EDTA. Ships on wet ice. Store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Determination of concentration from the A260 and determination of the A260/A280 ratio (1.8 to 2.0); determination of molecular size via gel electrophoresis: ≥80% of Salmon Hybloc™ DNA will run as a broad band within the 50 bp-600 bp size range.
