Conventional Cytogenetics
G-banded Karyotype Analysis
AGL has broad expertise in G-banded chromosome analysis for a wide variety of mammalian species (human, African green monkey, rhesus monkey, mouse, rat, hamster, cow, pig, dog, etc.). Our experience includes analysis of primary and established cell lines as well as cellular and gene therapy products.
G-banded karyotype analysis is performed in conjunction with non-banded chromosome analysis of a larger set of metaphases. Data from non-banded analysis are used to determine the chromosome count distribution, modal chromosome number and polyploid frequency of the sample. Chromosome aberrations are also recorded and reported for each non-banded metaphase analyzed. For samples (usually non-mammalian) that cannot be karyotyped but that still require cytogenetic analysis, AGL provides non-banded analysis alone.

AGL has broad expertise in G-banded chromosome analysis for a wide variety of mammalian species (human, African green monkey, rhesus monkey, mouse, rat, hamster, cow, pig, dog, etc.). Our experience includes analysis of live animals, established cell lines, and cellular and gene therapy products.
For samples (usually non- mammalian) that cannot be karyotyped for reasons such as lack of a suitable reference karyotype or the presence of many microchromosomes but that still require cytogenetic analysis, AGL provides non-banded analysis alone.
Our standard cytogenetic analysis packages each include the following:
- Culture and chromosome harvest(s) of your cells
- Metaphase slide preparation, pretreatment and staining
- Preparation and analysis of G-banded karyotypes (as applicable)
- Non-banded chromosome analysis to determine chromosome count distribution,
modal chromosome number and polyploid frequency, as well as to detect chromosome aberrations - Study-specific phase inspection and full data reviews
- Detailed final report suitable for submission to FDA or other regulatory body
This service complies with the Food and Drug Administration’s Good Laboratory
Practice regulations (Part 58 Title 21 CFR).
